Sant’Oreste – Il Soratte

Description

Near Rome, where today there is a mountain, once there was an island, surrounded by a shallow sea. Today its shape seems to be that of a rock, set in the panorama near there. A unique outline that, over millenia, gave birth to the legend of a rocky mountain that is also a historical mountain: the Soratte. Exploring the Soratte means to travel back and forth in time. Traces of extraordinary and mysterious historical events are hidden in its sides and in its bowels. Terra Incognita explored the Pope Silvestro hermitage, a place linked to the birth of Christianity in Rome, the 4 kilometers galleries of the bunker built by Mussolini in 1943, The Grotta di Santa Lucia and the Grotta Antica, that keep the secret of a death Neolithic ritual.
